Louis Joseph Janvier who had returned to Haiti after nearly three decades of absence
was later released and failed in the elections.

2017. Proclamation of the final results of the presidential elections on November 20, 2016
Published by the Provisional Electoral Council president by Léopold Bélanger on the site
of the Institution, these results made Jovenel Moise of PHTK, an entrepreneur and
a large-scale producer of bananas intended for export, the president
elected in the first round with 590,927 votes, or 55.60% of the vote.
He is therefore followed by Jude Célestin, the candidate of the Alternative League for Progress and
Haitian Emancipation (LAPEH), which obtained 207,988 votes (19.57% of the vote).
In third and fourth positions came respectively Jean-Charles Moïse de
the platform Pitit Dessalines, with 117,349 votes (11.04%), and Maryse Narcisse from
Fanmi Lavalas political party, with 95,765 votes (9.01%).
