This strike initiated the fall of Elie Lescot.
1991. Attempted coup d'état orchestrated by Roger Lafontant:
Lafontant, a former minister of the Duvaliers, fled from the palace and forced the president
provisional, Ertha Pascal-Trouillot to read a message in which she stated
to resign. The supporters of Jean-Bertrand Aristide, newly elected president
(December 16, 1990) invaded the streets of Port-au-Prince and forced the Army
from Haiti to intervene and arrest Lafontant. The latter was assassinated on the night of the 29th
as of September 30, 1991.
