1870. Arrest of President Sylvain Salnave.
Ousted from power by the Cacos, supported by the ruling class, Sylvain Salnave
flees in the direction of the Dominican Republic. Once past the border, he
was pursued and turned back by General Cabral in the direction of Anse à Pitre where he is
arrested. Taken to Port-au-Prince, he was shot on the ruins of the national palace.


1928. Amendments to the 1918 Constitution:
There were thirteen (13) amendments, mainly concerning the extension
from the presidential term.


1946. The cabinet of President Elie Lescot resigns:
Disturbances began on January 4, following the closure of the newspaper "La Ruche",
destabilized the government of President Elie Lescot who, to this day,
ignored the calls of protesters demanding his resignation. The next day, the army
monopolizes power.
