1856. Final defeat of Faustin Soulouque’s troops in the Dominican Republic.
After suffering a series of defeats in his attempt to win back the game
eastern of the island that had detached itself from Haiti in February 1844, Faustin’s army
Soulouque, then emperor of Haiti, tried a final invasion, this time in the
North by Dajabón. On her way to the Dominican capital, she was detained and
defeated at Sabana Larga (18°55'N 69°44'W) by the troops of General Franco Bidó.
