From these elections, the deputies of the 26th legislature and members of the
electoral college for the formation of the list of candidates for the Senate. These were the
last elections held under the government of Nord Alexis.
1914. Resignation of President Michel Oreste
Michel Oreste, born in Jacmel on 8 April 1859, became president on 4 May 1913
thus replacing Tancrède Auguste, who had died two days earlier. He had to resign.
under the pressure of an insurrection.
2022. Protest by police officers after the murder of colleagues by armed gangs at
Liancourt.
Seven officers of the Haitian National Police (PNH) were killed on January 25 during
the three-pronged attack on a police station in Liancourt, in the Department of
the Artibonite by members of armed gangs. Civilians and police decided
to demonstrate publicly their anger by blocking several arteries in Port-au-Prince and forcibly entering the interior of Portau-Prince International Airport. The de facto prime minister, Ariel Henry, had just arrived from a trip in
Argentina. Some even went to the primature. The prime minister was able
benefit from the protection of the American chargé d'affaires in Haiti, Eric Stromayer.
This murder brought the number of killed in the national police force to 14 for this month alone.
