The "spirit of Saint Louis", piloted by Charles A. Lindberg (1902-1974), was the
the first plane to connect New York to Paris during a crossing that lasted 2 days (20-21
May 1927).
2001. Maître Gérard Gourgue proclaimed provisional president of Haiti for a
two-year period
Refusing to recognize the validity of the previous year’s elections, the parties
forming the Convergence Democracies choose master Gérard Gourgue, lawyer
from the Port-au-Prince bar and former human rights defender in Haiti
like their head of state. A gesture without any political significance, but charged
symbolism.
2023. Installation of members of the Transition Council.
A political agreement signed on December 21, 2022, by the de facto government led
by Prime Minister Ariel Henry, with members of the private sector and a few
civil society actors' provides for two institutions, including the High Council of the
Transition (HCT).
Composed of three members (Calixte Fleuridor, from the Protestant Federation of Haiti,
for Civil Society, Mirlande Manigat, for the political parties and Laurent Saint
Cyr, for the private sector), this body’s mission is to choose the members of the
Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), those of the Committee of Experts for the revision of the
Constitution. It also participates in the evaluation of government bodies
including the reconstitution of the Court of Cassation, ministerial reshuffles, the
changes in the senior management of public administration and
reforms in Haitian diplomacy
