1846.- Removal of Louis Pierrot:
President of Haiti for about eleven months (see: April 16, 1845), Pierrot who had
made many disgruntled among the population and the army, was dismissed by the
garrisons of Saint Marc and Port-au-Prince. The next day, the latter
will proclaim Jean-Baptiste Riché president.
1930.- Landing in Port-au-Prince of the American commission of inquiry
commonly called the "Forbes Commission":
Formed in Washington on February 7, 1930, this commission chaired by the former
American governor of the Philippines [Mr. Cameron Forbes] and whose official name
was "President’s Commission for the Study and Review of Conditions in the
Republic of Hayti' was received by a people who did not hide their aspirations, and
openly expressed his demands through the testimonies of his
representatives, while denouncing the unjust and vexatious nature of the occupation
American.
1999.- Visit to Haiti of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Oscar Arias Sanchez:
Jurist, economist and former president of the Republic of Costa Rica, Mr. Oscar
Arias Sanchez received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1987. He went to Haiti as
that the United Nations envoy to serve as a mediator between the various parties
protagonists of the Haitian crisis exacerbated by President Préval’s decision to
declare the 46th legislature null and void. He left Haiti on March 2.
