1800. Dessalines landed in Jacmel after three months of siege:
The insurrection led by Rigaud following the attack on Pétit-Goâve won
other cities of the South, including Jacmel. Dessalines, then deputy to Tousssaint, besieged
the city and defeated Rigaud’s troops. A few months later, the latter
refugia in France. He returned to Saint Domingue with the expeditionary corps of
Leclerc.
1843. Departure for exile of Jean-Pierre Boyer:
President of Haiti for about 25 years, Jean-Pierre Boyer was forced to
to resign under the pressure of an insurgent movement from the South. He
so embarked for Jamaica, and from there went to France where he gave up the ghost
some seven years later. (See: 9 July 1850) at the age of 77.
1867. Resignation of President Fabre Geffrard:
President Geffrard, who took power on January 18, 1859, was forced to
to resign, having lost the support of his troops and the people who were being formed
in revolutionary committees in several cities of Haiti. He submitted his resignation to the
Senate, he says, to prevent the civil war and went first to Jamaica. He
expired on December 31, 1878.
