1796. Arrest of Governor Lavaud by Villatte:
Commander en-chel of the colonial army established in Saint-Domingue and governor
provisional of the said colony, Lavaud fought against the English and the Spanish on
several fronts. He stood up to them and even managed to keep the colony thanks to the
support of Toussaint Louverture and his indigenous army.
Jean-Louis Villate, a mulatto promoted general by the Convention in July 1795, and
his allies in no way approving of the governor’s relationship with Toussaint,
then decided to kidnap Lavaud and deport him. However, the latter was released
shortly after thanks to the intervention of Toussaint Louverture.

1812. Borgella made his submission to Pétion:
Elected to replace Rigaud as head of the Southern Council, Borgella made peace with
Pétion, thus ending the split between the South and the West.
1986. Resignation of Gérard Gourgue from the CNG:
Perceived as the only credible member of the CNG hastily formed by Jean-Claude
Duvalier before his departure (February 7, 1986), Gourgue wanted, through this resignation,
protest against the Council’s lack of democratic commitment. Subsequently, the
public clamor forced three members (Colonels Max Vallès and Prosper Avril and
Sir Alix Cinéas) to withdraw, which led to the formation of a new junta
of only three members.
