1790. First session of the Assembly of Saint Mark:
212 deputies elected by the whites of the parishes of Saint Domingue, then a colony
French, gathered today in the city of Saint Marc for a first
meeting. On the following 15 April, they constituted themselves as "General Assembly of the
French part of Saint Domingue' and expressed their adherence to the principles
of the French Revolution. On May 28 of the same year, this assembly adopted a
a constitution that reflected the autonomist will of the contested white farmers
thus openly the colonial administrators, representatives of royal power.
