1860. Signature of the concordat between the Haitian State and the Holy See:
Negotiated by the Geffrard government, this Concordat includes 18 articles and
stipulates, among other things, special protection for the Catholic Church as being
the religion of the majority of Haitians. It was ratified by the Haitian Senate on August 1st.
