1844.- Death of General Jérôme Maximilien Borgella.
Born in Port-au-Prince in 1773, this general played a leading role in history
from the country during the first half of the 19th century. Abandoning Alexandre Pétion,
he allied himself with André Rigaud, who had just declared the split from the South. He then became the
president of the Departmental Assembly of the South. Upon the death of Rigaud in 1811, we
made him the President of the Council of the Council, but soon came closer to
Pétion and thus facilitate the meeting with the West. Under the government of Jean-Pierre Boyer, he was alternately governor of Ozama province in the east and
commander of the Les Cayes district.
