1770. Naisance d'Alexandre Pétion:
Allied with Rigaud during the civil war of 1799-1800, he was exiled following defeat
of it and settled in France. He returned to Saint Domingue with the expedition of
Leclerc, but abandoned the French to form an alliance with Dessalines.
Hero of independence, he became president of Haiti from 1807 to 1818.
1842: Expulsion of 11 members from the House of Commons:
Deputies from the 6th legislature who were won over to the government’s cause expelled
almost all the opponents in the chamber. Next to the 4 deputies (Dumesle, St Preux,
Lartigue and Lochard) declared "disruptors of public order by the 5th
legislator" eliminated from the chamber on October 5 and 9, 1839 but re-elected and 7 others
including Émile Nau.
Many protest notes signed by these deputies were published by
the rest.
The 6th legislature was thus reduced to 36 deputies. That was the beginning of the end of the
government of Jean-Pierre Boyer.
1905. First football match in Haiti:
This meeting took place in Port-au-Prince on a site then located at Pont-Rouge
(entry of Port-au-Prince), and opposed the Haitian Sports Union (USP) of Port-au-Prince to the Athletic of Port-de-Paix. The latter’s players had made the
trip on the Haitian boat "Le Centenaire".
The match, which ended with a score of one to zero in favor of the team of
Port-au-Prince, was arbitrated by Commander Giboz.
1957. Resignation of the provisional president Frank Sylvain:
Elected on 7 February 1957 by the National Assembly by a majority of 23 votes, his
government had to face various problems in a political atmosphere
stifling.
