1859. Birth of Michel Oreste:
Born in Jacme, Michel Oreste was elected president of Haiti by the National Assembly on May 4
1913 was the first president who never wore a military uniform. Under the
pressure from the Cacos, he retired on January 27, 1914 and took the path of exile. He passed
his last days in New York, where he passed away on October 29, 1918
2002. Inauguration of a free zone project on the Haitian-Dominican border:
This project officially inaugurated by the Haitian and Dominican presidents, JeanBertrand Aristide and Hipolito Mejia, in the plain of Marie-Bahoux in Ouanaminthe
caused many discontent among the peasants of the area.
2013. Death of Mgr. François Wolf Ligondé
First Haitian Archbishop, he was appointed on August 20, 1966 after long periods
discussions between the Holy See and the Haitian government. He was ordained
Episcopal on October 28, 1966. He retired in 2008.
