1959. Death of Clément Jumelle:
Candidate in the presidential elections of September 22, 1957, Clément Jumelle, who
accused the Haitian army of favoritism, withdrew his candidacy as a sign of
protest. After the election of François Duvalier, feeling in danger, he won the
maquis, before taking refuge two years later at the Cuban embassy where he died.
His body was removed the next day by elements of the army during the
funeral procession. The most gruesome rumors then circulated about the use of
his body.

2012. A stampede at the Citadel of King Henry led to dozens of
dead:
The Citadel of King Henry, a fortress perched on the peaks of the Bonnet
L'Évêque, a mountain in the north of Haiti, was filled with students and visitors,
came to participate in a paid event known as "Citadel Vibes 3.0"
', which had attracted a large crowd to the historic site, now a heritage
UNESCO world. A stampede occurred and it was a disaster.
More than thirty people were killed. And many participants in the
festival were injured.
