1825. Ordinance of Charles X recognizing the Independence of Haiti:
In exchange for recognition, this order provided for the payment of a
compensation by Haiti. Indeed, Article 2 read as follows:
The current inhabitants of the French part of Saint Domingue will turn to the
the federal deposit and consignations fund of France, in five equal terms,
from year to year, the first due on December 31, 1825, the sum of a hundred
fifty million francs, intended to compensate the former settlers who
