1804. Dessalines Proclamation:
In a proclamation to the people, the governor general. Jean-Jacques Dessalines,
made the oath that "no European will ever set foot on this territory at all"
title of master or owner. This oath will be inserted later in the
Imperial Constitution of 1805, article 12 (the European word replaced by white), and
the following charters, and this until 1918 under American occupation.
1868. A riot in Port-au-Prince:
The riot was initiated by the opponents of Sylvain Salnave’s government, whose
actions, since the dissolution of the House on October 14, 1867, translated the
dictatorial impulses. However, it was quickly stifled by the forces
governmental organizations that placed Port-au-Prince in a state of siege.
Recall that at this time, President Salnave was traveling in the north
and did not return to the capital until May 4.
