1913. Election of Michel Oreste:
Elected by the National Assembly, following the death of Tancrède Auguste two days
Earlier, Michel Oreste, a lawyer with the Port-au-Prince bar and the first civilian to
to hold this office, will remain in power until his resignation on January 27, 1914.
It will be replaced first by a military-civil junta (See: Juntes and advice of
government) and then by Oreste Zamor, former military commander of the
department of Artibonite.
1961. Results of the April 30 elections:
President François Duvalier is declared re-elected.
