He is said to have been born on the Breda habitation near Cape Town.
1805. Ratification of the first Constitution of Haiti:
This constitution confirms the title of Emperor that Dessalines had granted himself in
1804. Clauses relating to the abolition of slavery, the principle of non-interference
and to the ban on foreigners owning real estate in Haiti are there
included.

1950. Departure of the president Estimated for exile:
Victim of a coup d'état ten days earlier [see May 10], Estimé, taking with him
his wife and children, embarks for the United States where he will pass away three years
after.
1968. Landing in Cap-Haitien of opponents to the government of François
Duvalier:
This invasion, organized by Bernard Sansaricq, Raymond Monteuil and Raymond
Cassagnol and supported by the Haitian Coalition, a movement of opponents
regrougrant of famous exiles whose former president Paul Eugène Magloire was a
Major failure. The government forces killed several members of the
commando. Others were arrested, interrogated, and tortured. All of them were cowardly
abandoned by the heads of the operation, Sansaricq and Montreuil, at the last
moment.
1980. Death of Mgr. Jean-Baptiste Décoste:
First Ordinary of the Diocese of Hinche, Monsignor Jean-Baptiste Décoste was born on the 3rd
February 1925 in Saint Louis du Sud. Ordained priest on March 8, 1952, he was appointed
Auxiliary Bishop of Port-au-Prince on August 20, 1966. His episcopal consecration
took place on October 28, 1966. On April 20, 1972, he was transferred to the new diocese of
Hinche.
2011. A fire destroyed the communal market of the city of Gonaïves:
The violent incident, of suspicious origin, left considerable damage to a
city that was recovering from cyclones Jeanne (September 2004) and Hanna
(September 2008).
