1957. Daniel Fignolé, founder of the MOP accepted the provisional presidency of Haiti:
Fignolé, the man with a caustic verb, was the darling of the population about whom he
had a certain ascendance. He could, if he wanted to, fill the streets of Portau-Prince with thousands of protesters dubbed "steamroller" who
would destroy in their path all that impeded it. He kept the post for
exactly nineteen days (June 16, 1957).
1964. Vote for a new constitution:
This constitution, passed by a single-chamber parliament, grants Duvalier the title
from "president for life."
