2004. Beginning of MINUSTAH deployment:
The United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Haiti was created by the
United Nations Security Council resolution 1542, of 30 April 2004, for
a six-month renewable period. Placed under Chapter VII of the Charter of
United Nations, it had to act in collaboration with the OAS (Organization of American States
Americans) and CARICOM (Caribbean Community), with a mandate to
to contribute to the restoration of stability in the country and to support the process
political and constitutional work in progress with a view to organizing elections. She
was therefore taking over from the Interim Multinational Force composed of
powers (the USA, France, and Canada) that contributed to Jean-Bertrand’s departure
