1770. An earthquake ravaged Port-au-Prince:
At 7:15 p.m., the city of Port-au-Prince was ravaged by a terrible earthquake
of earth that cracked the ground, destroying many public buildings and doing more
300 victims.

1776. Treaty modifying the borders between the Spanish and French parts in
colony:
Signed at Aranjuez in Spain, this treaty allowed the Spanish to monopolize
for a good part of French territory. In principle, it would have been canceled by the
Treaty of Basel (1795), but the Spaniards who were never worried about the loss
of their territory, retained the boundaries. France was too busy checking the
former slaves and freedmen to pay attention to this territory which
was theirs by right.
