1964. Swearing in of Francois Duvalier proclaimed, a few days earlier,
president for life:
Duvalier, who had been proclaimed president for life of Haiti by the parliament, organized
a large mass demonstration to mark his inauguration. Peasants from
all corners of Haiti were mobilized and taken to the capital, Port-au-Prince,
to acclaim the one who now pretended to be
"the undisputed leader of the Revolution." June 22 became a day of
leave.
1964. Father Claudius Angénor, administrator of the Archbishopric of Port-au-Princes is
place under house arrest by the government of François Duvalier:
At the Te deum to mark the swearing-in of Duvalier as from now on
president for life, he had requested the release of political prisoners, which displeased the head of
the executive.

2005. United Nations Security Council vote to strengthen the staff of the
MINUSTAH:
The United Nations Security Council, at its 5210th meeting, adopted
unanimously resolution 1608 adding more than 1,000 men to the strength of the
United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), already 7 strong
400 international soldiers and police. This military force was deployed in Haiti
in July 2004.
