06-23 June 23rd

1793. The city of Cape in flames:
Commissioners Sonthonax and Polvérel, who were in difficulty in Cape Town
after trying to deport the new governor, Galbaud (see: 13 June 1793),
then made an appeal to Black with the promise of freedom. Thousands of slaves and
free Blacks answered their call, creating a great one upon their arrival in the city
panic and the escape of settlers. On the evening of the 23rd, the city was consumed by flames. The
Vessels anchored in the harbor, full of refugees, hastened to leave.

2004. MINUSTAH takes control of peacekeeping operations by
Haiti:
During an official ceremony taking place in Port-au-Prince, the Force
Interim multinational that had been composed and landed the day after the
departure of Aristide (29 February 2004) handed over his responsibilities to the new Mission
of the United Nations, known as the United Nations Stabilization Mission Force. This force is still in Haiti.
