1800. André Rigaud defeated by the troops of Toussaint:
The hostilities related to the civil war, in which André’s mulatto allies clashed
Rigaud and the troops of Toussaint Louverture had decreased after the debacle
from Rigaud to Jacmel, but the latter had not laid down his arms. In a
clash at the Old Town of Aquin, Rigaud’s troops were again
Defeated. Three weeks later, he lost all hope of winning the
war and had to go into exile.
2001. Appointment of Mgr. Pierre-Antoine Paulo, omi as coadjutor bishop of
Port-de-Paix:
Former provincial superior of the Oblates of Haiti, former president of
the Conference of Religious in Haiti, he was in Colombia in
as a missionary among African-Americans in Cartagena de
Indias at the time of his appointment. He became titular bishop of
diocese after the Holy See accepted the resignation of Mgr.
Mgr. Frantz Colimon, smm on March 1, 2008.
2021. Assassination of President Jovenel Moise:
In the first hour of today, President Jovenel Moise, a
entrepreneur and banana exporter in power since the 7th
February 2017, was murdered at his home by a commando
heavily armed. During the attack, his wife, Martine
Étienne was seriously injured and was transported urgently
first in a hospital in the capital, then in Miami, Florida.
Elected in the presidential elections at the end of 2016, the country has experienced, during
his presidency, a whole series of political and social crises, often embellished
of violent strikes and demonstrations.
He was therefore the third head of state to be assassinated while in power. The other two
were Jean-Jacques Dessalines (17 October 1806) and Vilbrun Guillaume Sam (28
July 1915).
