1802. Departure of Toussaint Louverture for the Fort de Joux:
Arrested on June 7 and embarked from Cap sur le vaissau Le Héros on June 15 for a trip that lasted 27
days, Toussaint arrived in Brest on the following 12 July. He stayed there for nearly 30 days. On that date, he began
the last leg of the journey that was to take him to Fort de Joux.
The journey was made first by armed boat to Landerneau (Brétagne), then by van.
cellular to Paris where he spent the night at the Temple (a fortress) upon his arrival on the 17th before
left for the Fort de Joux the next day, where he arrived on 23 August 1802. Isolated in a dungeon
Rigorous of the Fort, undermined by disease, he passed away on April 7, 1803.
