📅 1888. Entry into Port-au-Prince of General Seide Thélemaque at the head of an army:
Commander of the district of Cap-Haitien and leader of an insurgent movement (5 August
1888), at the origin of the resignation of President Lysius Salomon, General Seide Thélémaque arrived
so in Port-au-Prince to get elected by the National Assembly and thus remove his laurels
presidential according to the custom of the time. However, he had to confront General François Légitime
who also presented himself as a candidate. Their supporters clashed and General Thélémaque left his
skin during a bloody skirmish (September 28, 1888). Légitime then became president.
