📅 1797. Commissioner Sonthonax is expelled from Saint Domingue by Toussaint Louverture:
At the origin of the proclamation freeing slaves in the northern province of Santo Domingo, and
on the appointment of Toussaint Louverture as general in chief, Sonthonax was forced
to leave the colony. In the account he sent to the Directory, Toussaint accuses him of wanting
to declare independence and advocate the massacre of the white population.

📅 1798. The English evacuated Jérémie:
Invited in 1793 by the French colonists who preferred to rally under the British flag instead
that by accepting the mulattos as full citizens, the English had settled down
comfortably in the city until the moment when André Rigaud and his troops blocked the city
in the name of France. Refusing to hang out with a sworn enemy of the crown, they abandoned the
city and went to the Môle Saint Nicolas.

📅 1889. President François Denis Légitime leaves for exile:
Protagonist of the civil war between the government sitting in the capital and the government
Northerly sitting in the Cape, Légitime, who had been abandoned by many of his generals, took
the path of exile aboard the French cruiser leKerguelen. His government lasted only eight years
month (December 16, 1888).
