📅 1849. The Senate of the Republic of Haiti conferred on President Faustin Soulouque the title
Emperor of Haiti:
Soulouque who, in December 1848, revised the 1846 Constitution to better control the
different branches of government, let himself, a year later, be convinced by his advisers to
to have the Emperor of Haiti consecrated. The legislative body by an act of the Chamber of Deputies the
the day before, and of the Senate on this day, is only endorsing this project by conferring on it the title. A constitution
