1820. Defection of the military garrison of Saint Marc:
Henri Christophe, whose health is failing following his apoplexy attack in
the church of Limonade on August 15, 1820, nevertheless continued to arouse fear.
The mutinists, who feared an attack from the soldiers of the North, did
so call on Jean-Pierre Boyer, successor of Alexandre Pétion and president of the
Western Republic. To come to their aid, the latter put himself at the head of a
army of 20,000 men who marched on the Cape. Even before their arrival
