1979. Death of Gérard E. Lescot.
Eldest son of President Elie Lescot, he took an active part in the government of his
father (1941-1946) as private secretary to the president (1941), under-secretary
the presidency (1942) and Minister of Foreign Affairs (1943-1946). To the latter
title, he participated in the San Francisco conference and signed, on behalf of Haiti, the charter
which became the birth certificate of the United Nations (June 26, 1945). At the fall of his
father, he retired to Montreal.
