1974. Death of former president Elie Lescot.
Former ambassador of Haiti in Washington and Santo Domingo, Élie Lescot became
President of Haiti by the grace of his friend, Sténio Vincent and the actions
patrons of the Dominican dictator, Leonidas Trujillo. Popular at the beginning of
his presidency, he quickly became an object of suspicion and disgrace, even within
his class, the mulatto elite.
Lescot was overthrown on 11 January 1946 and took refuge in Canada.

1997. Rosny Smarth, the resigning prime minister, announced that he had ceased his
temporary positions.
Haiti, which had no fully functional government since the announcement of
his resignation on 9 June was plunged into a political crisis.
