1883. Death of General Louis Dufresne:
Minister of War and the Navy from April 9, 1848 until the end of the French Empire
Faustin 1st, General Dufresne, under the presidency of Geffrard, commanded
the district of Port-au-Prince.
1987. Henri Namphy, then head of the National Council of Government
(CNG), proclaims himself commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Haiti
(FADH):
We are in the middle of an election period, and General Henri Namphy, who should be
principle to give up power at the advent of the new president (provided for in 7
February 1988) still wants to hold onto it by calling himself the head of the FADH, the army
being, at that moment, unavoidable.

1988. Death of Colonel Jean-Claude Paul:
Commander of the recently retired Dessalines Barracks, the colonel had
was accused by American intelligence of being a narco-trafficker,
and was not well by the provisional president, General Prosper Avril. This death
immediately became suspect. There was talk of poisoning.
The police chief, Georges Valcin, was assigned to the investigation. The police arrested
then the colonel’s ex-wife, Mireille Delinois, and two of his servants, the
suspecting of having poisoned the soup with giraumont that he had drunk that day.
Colonel Valcin sent a specimen of the soup to a foreign laboratory
for expertise. No further action was taken on the case.
2009. The Senate of the Republic ratifies Jean-Max Bellerive, first
designated minister:
Appointed by President René Préval only a few hours after the motion
Senate censorship against Michel Pierre-Louis (October 30), this
ratification constitutes to date, a record in the annals of chief appointments
of the Haitian government. The vote was obtained by a majority of senators
present during a short session.
