1865. Bombing of the city of Cap-Haitien by a British ship:
A conflict between Salnave, who had formed a provisional government in Cape Town and
held, for a few months, head over Geffrard’s troops, and the English consul
brought about the bombing of this city by the ship La Galatea. Geffrard, who
was besieging, the city took advantage of it to enter, which caused Salnave to flee on
an American ship that dropped him off at Saint Thomas. His supporters therefore accused
Geffrard for having sought the foreign help to get rid of his enemies.
1979. Black Friday at the Salesians in Port-au-Prince:
On the occasion of a conference organized by the Haitian League for the Rights of
L'Homme and to be presented by its president, Maître Gérard Gourgues, a
Commando in the pay of the government burst into the room, knocking
some of the assistants, including foreign diplomats and the lecturer, and
destroyed the furniture in the room. The cars parked on the courtyard were not, no
more spared.
