The men of color supported by those coming from Port-au-Prince attacked the
city of Jacmel and forced the whites to sign a concordat modeled on that
of the Croix des Bouquets.
1960. Student strike in Port-au-Prince and muscular reaction of François
Duvalier.
Protesting against the arbitrary arrest of some of their comrades, including
Joseph Renaud*, students from the capital, Port-au-Prince, initiated a strike
which took the form of real anti-government demonstrations. The reaction of the

students and their supporters were unceremoniously arrested. The university
renamed under the name of Haiti State University passed into the hands of
professors and leaders committed to the Duvalierist cause.
