1763. Condemnation and expulsion of the Jesuits from Santo Domingo:
Frowned upon by the settlers and slave owners who did not appreciate their
commitment in favor of slaves, they were accused of distorting faith
Christian, of slave corruption and insubordination to the Crown of
France.
1960. Expulsion of Mgr. François Poirier:
Archbishop of Port-au-Prince, from 1955, he was the first link in a chain
of expulsions of prelates (Mgr. Rémy Augustin, auxiliary of Port-au-Prince on the 10th
January 1961; Mgr Paul Marie Robert, bishop of Gonaives, on November 17, 1961;
the Jesuits on February 12, 1964; the Spiritans on August 15, 16, and 17, 1969). During his
exile and to facilitate the appointment of the new archbishop, François Ligondé, he presented
his resignation on August 16, 1966.
