1749. Foundation of Port-au-Prince:
Created by an act of the King of France Louis XV, the city was erected on the site of
the parish of Trou-Bourdet.
2000. Election of Jean-Bertrand Aristide to the presidency:
Following a vote boycotted by the majority of opposition parties and very
controversial, the former president of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, was elected for a
second non-consecutive term. He reportedly obtained nearly 92% of the votes. His most
close opponent, Arnold Dumas, would have obtained only 2.4% and the other 5
candidates as a whole, less than 5%.
