1894. Fire destroying the neighborhood of Bel-Air in Port-au-Prince:
The fire broke out in a house located between the streets of Calvaire and Abreuvoir
inhabited by a certain Méline Augustin and was not slow to spread throughout the
neighborhood, the proximity of the houses and the highly flammable equipment helping. It was
then the beginning of Bel-Air’s decline.
1908: Resignation of Louis Borno from the Council of Secretaries of State:
Although the only one to hand in his resignation, this act signaled the beginning of the end of the
government of Alexis in the North facing an insurrection from the South and at the head
from which Antoine Simon was found.
The rest of the cabinet remained in place until Alexis left and the ministries
remained without incumbents until December 8 when General Antoine Simon, was
proclaimed head of the executive power and called six advisers to his side with the
function of ministers
