1844. Birth in Italy of Bishop Giulio Tonti.
Mgr. Tonti was first the apostolic delegate of the Holy See in Haiti (August 10, 1892)
in order to become first the administrator (February 1893) and then Archbishop of
Port-au-Prince from October 1, 1894 to September 12, 1902. It subsequently became
Apostolic Nuncio to Brazil and Portugal. Elevated to the rank of cardinal on December 6
1915, he directed until his death (December 11, 1918) the Congregation of Religious.
